Welcome to the Shin Gi Tai Aikido Society |
 Shihan Gwynne Jones 8th Dan
This is the home of Shingitai Aikido on the web. The place where as a student, teacher or visitor you will be able to find out up to date information about the Shingitai Aikido Society and Aikido in general. The Shingitai Aikido Society promotes aikido as a dynamic, living art as practiced by its founder Osensei (Morei Ueshiba). Osensei was not stifled by insular and sometimes pseudo traditional constraints of his time and consequently his Aikido changed and developed throughout his lifetime. The Shingitai Aikido Society (under the guidence of Shihan Gwynne Jones 8th Dan) in the same way, nurtures an ever evolving Aikido which warmly welcomes into its fold many practitioners of differing styles, encouraging reciprical development so that our Aikido can continue to be enriched as the living, dynamic art practiced by its founder Osensei. New to Aikido? If you are new to aikido then please try an aikido class with one of our member clubs - see clubs and dojos - or contact us for more info. If you find out that you like aikido and would like more tuition then our classes have a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and visitors and beginners alike are always taken care of. Please browse for more information as these pages contain news, information and reports related to the art of Shin Gi Tai Aikido - so happy browsing and hopefully we will see you soon!! |

The seven day Shingitai Summer School this year featured some excellent classes with a knowlegable set of instructors. Classes were hard but as always in good Shingitai Society style, enjoyable with a good friendly atmosphere. Tim Lomas earning 2nd Dan with some excellent tanto dori Aikido students and instructors had travelled many miles from all over the country to be there and the mat was very well populated with little room to swing a cat let alone an aikido ka (student)! Shihan Gwynne Jones gave up a lot of time to take us through many techniques including explaining ki practice and use. Sensei is always keen to point out that Aikido should be natural. When someone calls our name in the street we don't turn around and instantly adopt a martial stance, we just turn naturally. In the same way our Aikido should be natural but with a good posture. He reminded us of the basics of posture taught by Osensei (Morihei Ueshiba - founder of Aikido) i.e. one centre, weight underside and extending ki. Many techniques he said required little or no effort if these basic points are kept in mind. |
